Vilamoura International Golf Classic Tournament
The Vilamoura International Golf Classic is one of the most established amateur golf tournaments in Europe, held every January in Vilamoura, in the Algarve. The tournament attracts amateur golfers from around the world to compete on Vilamoura’s exceptional courses, combining thrilling rounds of golf by day with engaging social gatherings by night, set against the backdrop of Vilamoura’s dynamic lifestyle.
Now in its 28th edition, the Classic runs over a full week and includes five rounds across four of Vilamoura’s most celebrated courses – the Old Course, Pinhal, Millennium and Laguna – plus a welcome cocktail, cocktail dinatoire and a farewell dinner with prize giving ceremony.
The Courses
Vilamoura is one of Europe’s premier golf destinations, home to a portfolio of five championship courses in close proximity to one another. The Old Course, opened in 1972 and designed by Frank Pennink, is the historic heart of golf in Vilamoura. The Pinhal, inaugurated in 1976, winds through a dense pine forest and remains one of the most characterful layouts in the Algarve. The Millennium, a conventional Par 72, was renovated to cement Vilamoura’s status as a top European destination. The Laguna, designed by Joseph Lee and built in 1990 on marshland, has been continuously refined over the years. The Victoria, designed by Arnold Palmer, hosted the Portugal Masters from 2007 to 2022 and the Golf World Cup in 2005, and stands as the flagship course of the portfolio.
Practical Information
The tournament is open to amateur golfers and typically includes seven nights of accommodation with breakfast, five rounds of golf with a pull trolley and practice balls, and all social events. Vilamoura is located in the central Algarve, approximately 270 km south of Lisbon and 25 km west of Faro International Airport – the most convenient entry point for most participants travelling from abroad.
