Restauradores Square in Lisbon
Restauradores Square has a perfect location, at the end of Avenida da Liberdade (one of the most known avenues in Lisbon) and side by side to Rossio Square.
Restauradores Square has many iconic buildings, like Foz Palace and its pink façade, Eden Theater, or Condes Cinema (now Hard Rock Café Lisbon), both beautiful examples of art-deco architectural style. In fact, Eden Theater deserves to be highlighted. Not only for the finest Art Deco architecture but also because of its cultural importance. Opened as a theater and cinema for silent movies in 1931, it was a popular venue at that time. Now, as a hotel, offers stunning views over the city at its rooftop bar.
At the center of the square, there is a 30m high white obelisk, known as Monumento dos Restauradores. This one, built to celebrate the regain of Portuguese independence in the 17th century, after 60 years of Spanish domination. Next to Foz Palace and its beautiful baroque pink façade, there’s one of the most popular trams in Lisbon. Elevador da Glória, which transports passengers from Restauradores Square up the hill to Bairro Alto since 1885.
