Arraiolos, a must see in Alentejo

Visit Arraiolos, a world-famous town with its incredible secular handmade tapestries. On your tour to Arraiolos, you’ll find beautiful streets with whitewashed houses. Also a large and surprising number of shops. Here they sell a wide variety of colorful artisan rugs. And of course, the last but not least its peculiar circular Castle. Most noteworthy is indeed the village round castle. Dates from the 13th century and it is at the top of the village guarding the Alentejo fields. Surrounded by an elliptic-shaped wall, it is quite unique. The classification as National Monument came in 1910. Its world-famous rug manufacturing reputation it is quite a thing. These rugs can have a huge range of sizes and can be used on the floor or even for ornamental purposes. This tradition dates to the Moorish period and the carpets still preserve some of the most important elements of that time. Also, the tapestries are guaranteed with a certificate of authenticity.
